Daily Drama: Dream Roles

Here at CEPA, we want to encourage young actors that even though there is no stage, they can still work on their acting abilities and have fun!

Working with your dream roles

We are going to have fun with this one. Take a moment to think of your dream roles. Roles from different plays that you would love to be cast in. Take a few moments to write those down.

Now that you have written those roles down, write down some of their characteristics for each one. Are they shy, awkward, or cold? Do they stutter? List as many characteristics as you can think of for each role. After you have completed that, look over the list of characteristics. Do you share any of them with your dream roles? That can give you a connection with the character, which may be why you were drawn to them in the first place.

Finally, take a short scene or monologue that is from your dream role. Think of those characteristics above and use them to work on. Practice the scene or monologue in the mirror or record yourself. This gives you the opportunity to explore your dream role, practice your acting, and gives you more material you can use later on. Working on roles that you love can motivate you to where you are ready for anything!
