The Talent

  • Sand Rock

Meet Sand Rock, a genre-blending jazz band made up of talented high school musicians with a passion for pushing boundaries. While rooted in jazz, their sound moves fluidly through funk, soul, rock, and blues, creating performances that are both innovative and deeply engaging.

What sets Sand Rock apart is their original music—crafted by band members Dylan and Brent—who bring fresh compositions to every set. Whether they’re reimagining classic standards or debuting new material, the group brings a level of musicianship and creativity well beyond their years.

With a name that nods to their hometown roots and a sound that reaches far beyond, Sand Rock is redefining what it means to be a young band in today’s music scene.

  • Rick Barnes

Meet Rick Barnes, a singer/songwriter from Steele, Alabama. Some say you can tell a lot about a man by the friends he keeps—and Rick’s circle includes a gallery owner, someone who once paid $5 to wrestle a bear, and a jet pilot. What that says about him is anyone’s guess, but one thing’s for sure: his songs from Study of Southern Gothic are worth bringing a friend to hear.

Whether you're rural, feral, or true as a gun barrel, there’s something in this set that’s bound to resonate.

Maybe the first time you saw your dad cry was when you buried your first dog. Maybe you’ve played checkers in the back of a bar. Or maybe you just appreciate gritty songs about revolution. Even ladies in leopard pajamas and cowboy boots will find something in these songs to take home.

Come hear Rick Barnes live at CEPA—you won’t want to miss it.
