Spotlight Studio

Spotlight Studio, created in 2020 by CEPA Management, provides modern content creation and performance opportunities for St. Clair County residents. It is the digital arm of CEPA’s Spotlight Drama Education and Outreach Program. Digital productions began during the COVID-19 pandemic, stemming from CEPA’s desire to continue engaging Spotlight Drama Club members while schools were closed, live performances were canceled and gatherings of any size were difficult. Its first projects were the Spotlight Moments and Quarantined Concerts series that encouraged members to film at-home performances.

Spotlight Film

Since the creation of Spotlight Studio in 2020, we have created lots of digital content ranging from videos to pass the time, short films, and now a feature length film that is in the works!

The process of creating a film starts with a script. Even if the scripts don’t become films, they can still become podcasts. Thus, The Blackbox Podcast by Spotlight Studio was created. The podcast scripts were written by Spotlight members and recorded. The interest in script writing was astounding. One podcast, “A Hallmark Christmas'' written and directed by Lacey Pierson, sparked the idea: “What if this was a movie?”

The Black Box Podcast

Spotlight Studio has created its very own podcast where contestants write a script and can be selected to cast and record episodes. There is one season currently available!

Meet our Coordinator!

Anna Hathorn has served Center for Education and Performing Arts in Pell City for two years, primarily assisting the nonprofit with marketing, outreach, and multi-media content. Hathorn was hired to continue the development of the Spotlight Studio program.

Anna was already our organization’s leader in marketing and has trained dozens of others in multi-media operations. Her passion for digital performance and continued drive to improve Spotlight Studio means we expect this program to advance faster than we originally predicted.

“I am very honored to have the opportunity to serve our community,” Hathorn said. “I am very excited to see what else we can achieve in the next coming years. We have a very diverse group of talented people that I truly think can help raise the bar for digital content in the area.”

Hathorn has already created 2 short films, with Spotlight Studio, with another on the way. She has assisted in the creation of many commercials and pieces of promotional content within St. Clair County.
